Eunice “(Nickie)” Askov, Distinguished Professor Emerita of Education and former Co-Director of the Institute for the Study of Adult Literacy and of the Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy at Penn State University

Guest Biography

Eunice N. Askov (Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison) is a Distinguished Professor Emerita of Education and former Co-Director of the Institute for the Study of Adult Literacy and of the Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy at Penn State University.  She formerly headed up the research and professional development efforts at both institutes in addition to teaching online in Penn State’s Adult Education Program. She also served as lead faculty member for the Certificate in Family Literacy that is offered through the Penn State World Campus.

In addition to membership in several literacy organizations, she served on the Board of Directors of the National Coalition for Literacy as research committee chair.  Since retiring from Penn State in 2005, she has worked as consultant on several projects while also serving as an expert reviewer for the LINCS professional development resources. She is also on the editorial board of the Adult Basic Education and Literacy Journal.

Nickie is a guest blogger in the National Coalition for Literacy online discussion of Reauthorizing the Workforce Investment Act, July 19 – August 6, 2010.
