NCL President’s Update
Date: October 18, 2011
Many new changes have occurred in 2011 within the National Coalition for Literacy’s (NCL’s) infrastructure that I believe will make a positive impact on adult literacy in this country. For the first time in the National Coalition for Literacy’s history, an adult learner is now the president of it. The NCL has also restructured its membership to allow more organizations to become part of this great movement. The NCL will be launching its new annual Membership Drive in November, please check back on the NCL Blog and Website for more information to come.
The National Coalition for Literacy now has 27 Full Member Organizations and Associates. I am pleased to welcome our newest participating organizations: Wider Opportunities for Women (WOW), DC LEARNS, and Education Development Center, Inc. Welcome again to our newest board members, Marcie Foster, The Center for Law and Social Policy(CLASP); Jeff Kratz, American Library Association, (ALA); and Jane Hugo, Proliteracy. I am looking forward to working with them, plus all of the organizations that believe we can make a difference. So, please mark your calendars for December 7- 8, 2011 for the next NCL Quarterly Meeting in Washington, DC. RSVP information will be available soon.
Please join me and the National Coalition for Literacy to help ensure that all voices that need to be heard, can be.
