What Are Your Top Three Priorities for WIA Reauthorization?
- Align Title I and II
- Use Consistent Definitions of Adult Ed and Allowable Activities in Title I/II
- Authorize Annual Appropriations for Adult Ed of $1 Billion or More
- Authorize and Codify EL/Civics
- Establish Independent National Center for Adult Education, Literacy, and Workforce Skills
- Increase State Leadership from 12.5% to a Minimum of 15%
- Fund and Improve the Use of Technology for Teaching and Learning
- Strengthen Direct and Equitable Provisions of the Law
- Eliminate the Current Incentive Grant Program/Allow Funds to be Added to Formula Grants for States
- Create a Separate Funding Stream in Title I for Operating One-Stops
- Fund a Review of, and Update, the National Reporting System

Please join NCL members and friends to celebrate and honor the 2010 Literacy Leadership Awards recipients. The NCL Literacy Leadership Award recognizes individuals and organizations that have made extraordinary contributions to improving literacy in the United States.

This year, we are pleased to honor the following individuals and organizations:

Senator Thomas Harkin (IA)
Representative John Yarmuth (KY)
English Under the Arches led by Betsy McKay, Director of Bilingual Leadership Development for McDonald’s USA LLC
Kentucky Education Television (KET)
Archie Willard, long time student advocate and leader

Additionally, we are proud to have Congressman Jared Polis (CO) joining us to give closing remarks. Congressman Polis led the U.S. House of Representatives in dedicating the week of September 13 as National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week.
