It was great to hear the good stories of success! Georgia really knows how to stretch a small grant! Glad to finally meet the famous Art Ellison, and get a vision of what an infrastructure for advocacy can accomplish. Thanks all!

Despite Dr. Waite's poor performance, I was favorably impressed by the rest of the group and will be reporting back to Senator Bagsomoney on the many great ideas that came out of this session.

We started this session with a role play in which Peter Waite portrayed an uninformed and ill-prepared advocate in a meeting with Jeff Carter, education legislative aide for Senator "Bagsomoney". The role play pointed up the importance of doing your homework before meeting with a policy-maker, presenting the information that you have to share coherently and cohesively, and listening to what the LA or policy-maker says in the meeting. Now we are hearing from state level advocates who are sharing how they have organized, what they have done, and how they have overcome obstacles and challenges. The group is very interested in idea sharing and strategies for building advocacy capacity.

I look forward to participating in this session. I plan to provide information in regard to some advocacy strategies that proved effective in getting the Texas Legislature to increase its investment in adult education. I will also provide an update in regard to the status of that initiative one year after that legislative victory and some thoughts about lessons learned and next steps.
