Hello!

The Coalition has been doing a few things:

** The US Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention developed a national health literacy action plan. The National Coalition for Literacy contributed to that plan. It is still in draft form, although organizations like the American Medical Association and the American Dental Association are already implementing it. It provides resources and tools for communities to improve the health literacy of their populations.

** The Coalition is also sponsoring two sessions on health literacy policy at the upcoming US Conference on Adult Basic Education & Literacy in Chicago (a joint COABE and ProLiteracy conference). The sessions are as follows:

National Action Plan to Improve Health Literacy
Presenter:
•	Gary Podschun, Manager, Community Outreach and Cultural Competence Council on Access, Prevention and Interprofessional Relations, American Dental Association (ADA)

Critical Keys for Successful Health Literacy Partnerships
Presenters:
•	Carol Gabler, Consultant, Health Literacy Advancement, LLC
•	Sue McIntyre, Consultant, Health Literacy Advancement, LLC

For those interested in attending, register at: www.coabeproliteracy2010.org

** Also this spring, guest bloggers will be joining us here on the NCL Advocacy Blog to discuss their work in the health literacy and policy arena. So please bookmark http://blog.ncladvocacy.org – details coming soon.
